Summer is a great time for outdoor barbecues, or sitting beside the pool. Flies coming to the party takes away the pleasure of these outdoor pastimes. There are a number of solutions to rid yourself of these pesky fecal spreaders. Try any and all of them and you’ll take back your own outdoor pleasures.

Clean up. If you have something that flies like, they cluster. Pick up after your animals; wipe down sticky surfaces; cover garbage cans and move them as far from your yard as possible; drain water sources.

The green way to eliminate flies is to find ways to detract them. Make your environment hospitable to fly-catching birds such as Purple Martins and Swallows. You will also find yourself fly-free if you purchase Dirt Daubers. They are black wasps that sting flies and haul them back to the nest for their larvae to feed upon. They never attack humans.

Plant marigolds. Their scent repels many household pests and especially flies. Send your child outside to swat flies. Pay a bounty and he’ll stick with it for awhile. Hang clear plastic bags of water on either side on your door. Flies are bothered by them and leave the area.

Fill quart sized empty milk containers with ¼ cup of syrup and ¼ cup of vinegar. Poke fly sized holes in the container with a sharp pencil. Flies go in and can’t get out. Hang them all over the yard. Hang fly paper and revel in the critters that get stuck to it. Buy commercial fly traps from Loews. Mix the bait with water and hang it out for the flies. It smells rotten, and flies like that. In they go in, never to come back out.

Call a commercial pest control. They guarantee that all six and eight legged pests will be gone or they will come back and re-treat the area.
