How to Stop Auto Fill in Internet Explorer

Internet Explorer's AutoComplete feature allows the browser to remember entries like usernames, passwords and previously visited websites so you don't have to re-enter the same information repeatedly. Once you begin typing in the address bar or on a form, AutoComplete starts to display matching text that you have typed before. If you do not want information to be automatically filled in for you, you can turn AutoComplete off in your browser's Internet Options.

Instructions

    • 1

Open a new browser window, and click "Tools" and "Internet Options."

    • 2

Click the "Content" tab at the top of the window.

    • 3

Click the "Settings" button under the "AutoComplete" heading.

    • 4

Click any checked boxes under "Use AutoComplete for" to clear them and completely turn AutoComplete off. If you just want to turn AutoComplete off for certain areas, such as your browsing history, clear the appropriate box.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you want to clear all of your AutoComplete history, click the "Delete AutoComplete history" button in your AutoComplete settings box.

  • Make sure you remember any passwords or other information that Internet Explorer automatically fills in for you before you turn AutoComplete off. You will have to enter this information on your own once the feature is disabled.
