Adobe Photoshop CS3 Tutorial: Erasing the Background

Adobe released Photoshop CS3 in 2007. Like previous versions of Photoshop, Photoshop CS3 has the capability to delete the background from an image. Photoshop users sometimes will erase the background from an image and insert another background into the picture. This gives the illusion that the subject in the forefront of the picture is in a different location than it was when the photo was originally taken.

Instructions

    • 1

Open a new Photoshop document by clicking on the Photoshop CS3 icon and selecting "Ctrl" + "N" on your keyboard.

    • 2

Click on the "Layer" menu at the top of the page. A menu will appear.

    • 3

Select "New" and "Layer." A new layer will appear in your "Layers" palette.

    • 4

Click the magnetic lasso tool. Outline the background area you want to remove from the image. Click around edges and corners. Finish the outline in the same place you started.

    • 5

Press "DELETE" on your keyboard. You now have erased the background.
