In "The Sims 2," the best way for your Sims to earn a living is by getting a job and being promoted. The higher your Sims are promoted in their careers, the more money they will earn. With any job on "The Sims 2," you need a certain amount of skill points and friends to earn promotions. If your Sim has chosen a career in the Law Enforcement field, the Detective job is a good option because it is easy to get promoted to, and your Sim will earn $756 each day they work.

Have your Sim get an entry level job in the Law Enforcement career by clicking on a newspaper or computer and selecting the option "Find a Job". The first job in the Law Enforcement career is "Security Guard".

Buy gym equipment and have your Sim work out until he has 1 body skill point. This skill point is required for a promotion. Have your Sim go to work in a good mood with 1 body skill point and he will be promoted to "Cadet" once he comes home.

Have your Sim exercise until he has 1 more body skill point. Once your Sim goes to work in a good mood with 1 more body skill point, he will be promoted to "Patrol Officer".

Have your Sim obtain a logic skill point by either playing chess, doing a crossword puzzle in a newspaper, or by looking through a telescope. Your Sim will also need 1 friend to attain a promotion. Your Sim will be promoted to "Desk Sargent".

Have your Sim work out to obtain 1 more body skill point and have him make 1 more friend. Your Sim will be promoted to "Vice Squad".

Make your Sim play chess, do a crossword puzzle, or look out of a telescope to obtain 3 more logic skill points. Have your Sim either clean up around his house or read a book on cleaning to get 2 cleaning skill points. After your Sim has fulfilled all these requirements, have your Sim go to work in a good mood, and your Sim will be promoted to "Detective".

Make sure your Sim is in a good mood before he goes to work. If he is in a bad mood, he won't get promoted, and he could even get demoted.
