How to Build a Lightsaber Handle

Lightsabers were created by George Lucas for his "Star Wars" films. The Jedi Knights carried lightsabers to use as weapons. A basic lightsaber handle needs grips, a button and a hook. Build a lightsaber handle from a wooden closet rod. You can add more decoration to your lightsaber, if desired. A wooden handle is lightweight but sturdy and will last several years if properly cared for.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

    • 1

Apply wood glue to one of the length sides of a rectangular piece of wood that measures 1 inch wide by 2 inches long by a half-inch thick. Press it onto the middle of the rod lengthwise. Fill any gaps between the rod and rectangular piece with wood glue. Let the glue dry completely.

    • 2

Put on a paint mask. Spray paint the entire rod with silver metallic paint. Let the paint dry. Apply a second coat if needed. The paint should cover any visible glue.

    • 3

Slide six to nine O rings around the bottom of the rod to make a grip. You can have the rings pressed close together or spaced out. Use more if necessary.

    • 4

Apply superglue to a D-ring. Press it onto the bottom of the rod. Let the glue dry.
