Scrub away the rust. Use a scrubbing pad to scrub the rust off of the chrome. Use elbow grease on the rust that is difficult to remove.

Make a rust removing paste by mixing 1 part lemon juice with 2 parts borax acid in a bowl. Let the paste thicken, then use a paper towel to apply the paste to the chrome. Wait 15 minutes for the pastes to seep into the rust, and then scrub off the rust with a scrubbing pad. Wipe the chrome with a damp paper towel before wiping the area dry.

Apply rust remover. Buy a rust remover like Rust Off or CLR Calcium, Lime and Rust Remover from a home improvement center. Put on a pair of gloves before applying a small amount of rust remover to a paper towel. Wipe the paper towel on the rusted areas of the chrome and let the rust remover stand for 10 minutes. Use a scrubbing pad to scrub off the rust. Clean the area with a paper towel, then dry the area.
