Instructions

    • 1

Climb the ladder and look for holes and cracks where water will drip and pour.

    • 2

Spread roofing cement over any small holes, using a narrow putty knife. Apply a generous amount of roofing cement to sufficiently cover the hole, then smooth the excess away to help maintain a smooth flow of water through the gutters.

    • 3

Measure and cut a piece of sheet-metal patch with a saw to place over larger holes. Place a layer of roofing cement on the ends and press the patch firmly in place. Cover the patch with a generous layer of roofing cement with a putty knife, creating a consistent layer but thin enough not to obstruct water flow.

    • 4

Fill any cracks with silicone caulking compound. Apply the compound to joints as well to prevent leaks from starting in the elbows of the gutters. Caulk the inside and the outside of the gutter to create the strongest seal.

Tips & Warnings

  • Work with roofing cement on a warm day so it is more malleable. If the weather doesn't permit this, keep the roofing cement in a warm room until it softens. Work in small batches.
