There are several ways to block a certain website from your computer, but the simplest and most common way is through a command prompt. This can come in handy when you want to make sure your children are not going to their favorite website when they should be studying.

Instructions

      Shut down all of the applications and programs on your computer.

      Hit the "Windows" key and the "R" key at the same time.

      Type "cmd" in the field and hit the "Enter" key.

      Type "notepad C:/Windows/System32/drivers/etc/hosts" in the command window.

      Find the line that contains "127.0.0.1 local host."

    • 6

      Type "127.0.0.1 URL" on the next line, with "URL" being the site you want to block. For example, if you want to block cnn.com, you will type "127.0.0.1 cnn.com."

      Save the file. Click out of all windows.
