1
Select an area in your home that will get plenty of sunlight throughout the day. A windowsill that isn't blocked by anything is ideal.
-
2
Fill a flower pot with potting soil. Leave one or two inches at the top. For every garlic clove you plant, you'll want at least four inches of space surrounding it, so choose a flower pot accordingly.

3
Plant one clove of garlic in the upright position about one inch under the soil. Cover the clove with soil. It's best to grow only one or two cloves of garlic per flower pot to provide adequate space for the plants.
-
4
Keep the soil semi-damp. It should never be sopping wet or crumbly dry.
-
5
Wait for the garlic plant to mature. As it reaches its maturity date, the leaves will turn brown and begin to die. This signals the time for harvest. Pull up the garlic, brush off the soil and then let it hang to dry for one to two weeks.
