How to Fill Power Steering Fluid in a 1999 Pontiac Bonneville
The Bonneville was introduced by Pontiac in 1957 as a limited-edition convertible with a powerful V8 engine. The Bonneville name was used from 1958 to 2005 on Pontiac’s larger offerings, usually luxurious cars that fit into the General Motors hierarchy between Chevrolet and Oldsmobile. The 1999 Bonneville was a full-sized, front-wheel-drive sedan that was powered by a transverse-mounted 3.8-liter V6 engine and an automatic overdrive transmission. The power steering in your Bonneville is driven off an engine-mounted pump that has a built-in reservoir. The power-steering fluid must be kept to the proper level for correct steering performance.

1
Open the hood of your Bonneville. Locate the power-steering pump, which is mounted on the passenger side of the engine bay on the back side of the engine block.
-
2
Remove the power-steering pump reservoir cap by twisting it off in a counterclockwise direction. Place the cap aside.
-
-
3
Insert a long-necked funnel into the power-steering reservoir through the opening revealed after removing the cap.
-
4
Pour a small amount of power-steering fluid through the funnel and into the reservoir. Remove the funnel and replace the reservoir cap, which has a built-in dipstick on the underside of it. Remove the cap and check the fluid level on the dipstick. Repeat this step as many times as necessary until the fluid reaches the “Full” mark on the dipstick.

5
Remove the funnel. Replace the power-steering reservoir cap. Close the hood.

Tips & Warnings
Do not overfill your power-steering reservoir with fluid. Air bubbles could form, causing foaming which could damage your power-steering pump. If you accidentally overfill your reservoir, remove excess fluid with a syringe.
