How to Convert a WAV to an MP3 Winamp Transcoder
You may need to convert your WAV files to MP3 for use on a portable media device like a cell phone or MP3 player. If you are using the Winamp transcoder, you will first need to download the latest Pro version of Winamp ($19.95) from its parent website, since Winamp Media Player alone does not support WAV to MP3 conversions. Please note that because WAV files are generally of better quality than MP3s, you may lose some audio quality during conversion.

Download and install Winamp Pro from winamp.com. Agree to the terms of use and open Winamp.

Right-click the file you want converted and select "Send To:" Choose "Format Converter." (For multiple tracks, hold down "CTRL" while clicking on your files).

Choose "MP3 Encoder..." from the drop down list of "Encoding Format" options.

Select a destination folder, the save location, on your computer where you want to store your converted files by clicking the "Browse..." button. You may also keep the default save location by pressing the "Use Old File Name and Path..." option.

Click "OK" to begin transcoding your WAV file(s) to MP3.

You may convert entire playlists of music in Winamp by right-clicking the playlist icon and choosing "Format Converter" from the "Send To:" sub-menu.
