How to Repair Scratches on a Leather Couch

Repair scratched leather with polish or a leather repair kit.

When you have leather furniture, it can occasionally become scratched because of normal wear and tear. Although it may seem impossible to fix scratches on leather furniture, it isn't. There are many things that you can do to repair scratches on your leather furniture, and most of these repairs do not require a lot of money or time.

Things You'll Need

• Vacuum
• Leather upholstery cleaner
• Furniture or shoe polish
• Cotton swabs
• Buffing cloth
• Leather conditioner

Instructions

1. Clean your leather couch before you attempt to repair it. It is important to remove any dirt or debris so that you are working with a clean surface during the repair process. Use a vacuum and a leather upholstery cleaner to prepare the surface of the couch.

2. Locate a leather shoe polish that matches the color of your leather furniture. Apply the polish to the scratches with a cotton swab. Try not to get the polish on anything other than the scratch.

3. Blend the polish into the scratch by rubbing it with a buffing cloth. Reapply the polish and rebuff it until the polish fades when rubbed in. Allow the polish to air dry.

4. Apply a leather conditioner to the scratched area after the polish has dried. Work the conditioner into the spot with a soft cloth.
