How to Beat Adrenal Burnout

How to Beat Adrenal Burnout thumbnail
Adrenaline injections help to treat adrenal burnout, though these injections can only be administered by a physician or nurse.

Adrenal burnout results when the adrenal glands deplete from the over-production of adrenaline, cortisol and other chemicals and hormones necessary to regulate functions within the body. You can treat adrenal burnout at home with lifestyle changes that involve exercising and adopting a proper and healthy diet. However, before you begin a regimen to beat adrenal burnout, you should have the condition properly diagnosed to ensure that the symptoms of adrenal burnout do not point to another, more serious condition.

Instructions

    • 1

Avoid skipping meals. When you skip meals your blood sugar level decreases and your adrenal glands attempt to compensate for this drop. Making up for this decrease causes your adrenal glands to stress; continued stress from missed meals will contribute to or cause adrenal burnout.

    • 2

Become a grazer. Eat three healthy meals a day, and have a healthy snack every couple of hours throughout the day. Eating frequently keeps your blood sugar in check and regulates your adrenal glands.

    • 3

Avoid sugary and salty junk food, white rice, white bread and white pasta. Other foods to avoid include caffeinated foods and beverages such as coffee and soda that over-stimulate the adrenal glands and deplete vitamins in the body.

    • 4

Practice relaxing exercises. Aerobic and vigorous exercise will not help the adrenal glands; rather, they contribute to depletion of the adrenal glands. Relaxing exercises that promote stress relief are ideal for treating and preventing adrenal burnout. Such exercises include yoga, meditation, stretching, deep breathing and walking.

    • 5

Avoid controlled substances. The chemicals in alcohol, tobacco and drugs will raise adrenaline and cortisol levels.

    • 6

Supplement your diet with vitamin formulas to treat adrenal fatigue. Valerie Balandra, registered nurse practitioner at SelfGrowth.com, recommends a daily vitamin cocktail that includes 100 to 400 milligrams of L-Theanine, 300 milligrams of vitamin B5, no more than 1,000 milligrams of licorice and between 1,000 and 3,000 milligrams of vitamin C.
