How to Fold RV Steps

The steps on an RV or camper are provided for safety and convenience. They can prevent accidents and provide ease of entry and exit. The steps on an RV or camper must be folded in during travel and are folded out for use while the vehicle or camper is parked. There are several types and sizes of steps that are used on an RV, but they are all folded in the same manner.

  1. Single Step

    • 1

      Grasp the end of the step and pull upward.

    • 2

      Push the step to slide it inward and release the step. If the step is difficult to push, place one hand on each side of the step and firmly push inward.

      Unfold the step by grasping the end and pulling upward and out.

    Double Step

    • 4

      Grasp the bottom step with one hand and fold it over the top step.

    • 5

      Pull the folded steps upward and push inward. If the steps are difficult to push, use both hands and pull upward and firmly push the steps inward.

      Unfold the step by grasping both sides of the steps and pulling up and then out. Lift the bottom step and pull it away from the top step.

    Triple Step

    • 7

      Grasp the bottom step and fold it over the middle step. Lift the bottom and middle step and push inward to place the two steps under the top step. If the steps are difficult to push, use both hands and pull upward and firmly push the steps inward.

      Place both hands on the bottom of the three steps and pull upward. Push the steps in firmly. If the steps are difficult to push, raise them a little higher and push firmly.

      Unfold the steps by firmly grasping the bottom of the steps and pulling up and out. Grasp the bottom two steps and pull up and out. Lift the bottom step and fold it away from the middle step.

Tips & Warnings

  • If the steps are difficult to pull or push, lift them a little higher and push or pull firmly. If the steps are still difficult to fold or unfold, lubricate the tracks with aerosol grease. Be careful not to get the grease on the steps.

  • Always fold the steps before moving the RV.
