A plethora of travel-related websites offer options to make travel maps, which you can move virtually throughout cyberspace to update travel buddies and relatives about your location, your history and your plans.

Find a website that offers the travel map service. VirtualTourist.com, TripAdvisor.com, TripIt.com and TravBuddy.com are just some that offer the free service.

On the map provided, click on the places you've been to highlight them. As you click on the same place multiple times, the highlighting color will change, indicating whether you have traveled to the country in question, lived there or plan to visit.

Click on the "save map" or "create map" button to publish your map.

Enter a username, password and email address to join the site, if required.

Highlight the block of text code that created your map. Copy and paste the code to share your map on a third-party website.

Tips & Warnings
Some websites will make you join the site to create a map. In this case, it is best to join the site before creating the map, as your work may be lost when you log in for the first time.
