      Unplug the vacuum cleaner. Turn the vacuum on its side or upside-down, and unscrew the bottom piece that covers your cleaner's mechanism, using a screwdriver. Take note of your vacuum's make and model. This will make it easier for you to find an exact replacement belt.

      Clean the vacuum once it is opened. Remove any dirt or unnecessary things that could be stuck inside the vacuum. Once done, remove the broken belt, but don't throw it away yet. Usually, the belt has a serial or identification number, or its specifications printed on it. These details will also help you find a replacement.

      Place the new belt where the old one was.
