Turn your little princess's bed into a fairy canopy.

However, you can inexpensively make the canopy yourself and without needing a four-poster bed. With a few simple accessories, the canopy will fit perfectly over any sized bed. Instructions

    • 1

Measure the height of the bedroom, from the floor to the ceiling. The tulle should be purchased in twice the height of the room, plus an additional 2 feet. If the room is 7 feet in height, plus you need 2 extra feet, you'll need 9 feet of fabric. Fabric is purchased in yards, so you'll need 3 yards of tulle for the canopy.

    • 2

Smooth the tulle down on a flat, clean surface. Take out the smaller circle of the embroidery hoop. Slide the smaller circle under the tulle, centering it in the middle of the fabric.

    • 3

Place the larger circle on top of the outside of the tulle, over the smaller circle, but do not push it down. Pull up on the fabric through the larger circle so 2 feet of tulle is through the larger circle. Push the larger circle down onto the smaller circle; this will ensure that the fabric is held taught in the embroidery hoop.

    • 4

String the fishing line through the very top of the tulle that was pulled through the larger circle. You will need about 12 inches of the fishing line. Tie the line in a double knot so it stays on the canopy.

    • 5

Decide where you'd like the canopy to be hung. Typically, the canopy should be centered above the head of the bed. However, you do not want it too close to the wall because the canopy will tip. Mark a spot on the ceiling for the screw.

    • 6

Screw the screw-in hook to the ceiling where the mark was placed. Bring the canopy up to the screw, and tie the fishing line to the hook. Tie the line into a double knot to ensure it's secure.

    • 7

Use the string to tie on fake flowers or fairy decorations on to the canopy (see References for ideas). You can tie on as many or as little decorations as you like. You can also use the flowers to decorate the outside of the canopy, then add a few fairies to the inside.

    • 8

Adjust the canopy to ensure that the opening is facing the bottom of the bed.

Tips & Warnings

  • To really decorate the canopy, choose a colored tulle. Tulle can be purchased in almost any color and can even have sparkles in the fabric.
