How to Remove a General Electric Oven Door?

General Electric has been making home appliances since the early twentieth century. Although GE introduced many electrical appliances starting in 1907, the electric range did not come about until 1928.       Open the oven door to its horizontal position.

      Locate the two screws on near each hinge on the inside surface of the oven door.

      Remove the two screws with a Philips-head screwdriver in a counterclockwise direction. Place the screws aside.

      Simultaneously hold in the bottom of the door to the hinges while raising the door up to the first stopping point, which should leave the top of the door open approximately 3 inches.

      Grasp the door on both sides and pull it straight up and off of the hinges.

Tips & Warnings

  • To install your oven door, make sure the hinges are sticking out slightly from the front edge of the oven. If they are not, pull them back out until they lock into place. Grasp the oven door and raise it up. Slide the two slots on the lower corners of the door over the hinges. Lower the door to its horizontal position. Thread the two screws into in the bottom corners of the door and into the hinges with the original screws tightened with a Philips-head screwdriver. Close the oven door.

  • While the oven door is removed, the hinges will remain sticking out past the front edge of the oven slightly. The hinges need to remain in this position for the installation of the door. Do not put your fingers in between the hinge and the front edge of the oven, as you could be injured if the spring loaded hinge should snap back in.
