How to Clean Vomit Off a Suede Couch

A suede couch looks and feels luxurious, especially when it's clean.

No matter how many times you've had to do it, cleaning up the vomit of a family member or pet is never enjoyable. Suede is a type of leather and is naturally porous. Vomit stains on your suede couch can seem like a disaster, but it is possible to remove both the stain and odor. Use supplies found in your home to remove vomit from your suede couch and return it to a clean condition.

Things You'll Need

• Spoon
• Garbage bag
• Sponge
• Laundry detergent with enzymes
• Water
• Bowl
• Spatula
• Clean cloths
• Suede brush

Instructions

1. Remove as much vomit as possible by scraping it up with a spoon. Put the vomit in a garbage bag and dispose of in an airtight garbage receptacle.

2. Blot the stained area of your suede couch, using a clean sponge dampened with cool water.

3. Make a cleaning paste, in a bowl, using an enzyme laundry detergent and water.

4. Spread the paste over the vomit stain, using a spatula. Apply the paste liberally, then allow it to sit on the stain for 15 to 30 minutes.

5. Scrape the paste off your suede couch, using your spatula.

6. Soak a clean cloth in cool water and dab at the area on your suede couch where the stain was. Remove your cleaning agent and any last remnants of stain. Allow the suede couch to dry overnight.

7. Open a nearby window, if possible, to freshen the room.

8. Brush the suede with a suede brush to fluff up the nap and fibers.

Tips & Warnings

• Sprinkle baking soda, liberally, on the soiled area. This will remove any lingering odor left by the vomit. Allow the baking soda to sit overnight, then vacuum off.

• Wiping vomit up with a cloth will likely spread the stain. Scoop up the bulk of it first, then clean it.
