Instructions for a Dell CD Burner

Instructions for a Dell CD Burner thumbnail
Burn a CD with your Dell computer.

Most Dell computers now come with an installed CD burner. This allows you to create your own custom CDs for various kinds of data. Typically a Dell computer comes with Nero preinstalled on the system, allowing you to create your own custom CD. Although the Nero program can walk you through the burning process it is good to know exactly how to customize the disc before starting.

Instructions

    • 1

Insert the blank CD into the Dell CD burner. Close out the autoplay window that appears on the computer screen.

    • 2

Launch Nero and a small window will appear on the screen. This is the CD format screen, giving you the different options for what kind of disc to create. Choose a format depending on the data you want to use. If you want to play a video on a DVD player select "Video CD" (the quality is not as high as with a standard DVD, but the disc can still play on the player), or select "Audio CD" for music CDs or "Data CD" if you want to back up files on the computer. Once you make your selection the actual program will appear on the screen.

    • 3

Click "Add Files" and a window will appear enabling you to search for the files you want to add to the CD. Select the files and click "OK." Repeat the process until you have uploaded all the desired files to the computer program.

    • 4

Click "Burn" and the Dell CD burner will create the CD.
