How to Donate an Automobile in Massachusetts
Charities promote social causes by soliciting time, money and other resources. For example, many charities accept automobile donations. Many donors prefer to donate an automobile instead of selling it for a small amount of cash. Massachusetts donors can select from a variety of charities that accept car donations. Charities work with companies that pick up and sell donated cars. Make a car donation in Massachusetts by contacting the company that serves his selected charity.

Tips & Warnings
The original tax receipt that you receive allows you to fill in the fair market value of your vehicle if it sells for less than $500. You may deduct the lesser of $500 or the car's fair market value on your income taxes. Use the Internal Revenue Service Publication 561 to get details on determining fair market value (see Resources). The additional form for a car selling for more than $500 contains the exact sale amount. You may deduct only that sale amount on your taxes.
