Instructions

    • 1

Draw a simple outline of a human body with fabric pen on a piece of cloth the desired skin tone of the doll. Fold cloth under the layer with the outline so you have two equal-sized layers of cloth. Cut out the outline, cutting through both pieces of cloth at once.

    • 2

Sew the two outlines together to create the doll body, using a basic backstitch. (See resource site for illustrated example of the stitch.) Leave a one-inch opening between where you start and finish sewing.

    • 3

Stuff cotton batting into the opening to give the doll dimension. Distribute batting evenly throughout the doll. Sew the one-inch opening closed when finished.

    • 4

Paint a mouth with red acrylic paint and eyes, hair and a nose with black acrylic paint.

    • 5

Cut a length of black fabric that is twice the height of the doll and equal to the doll's width. Cut a hole in the center of the cloth big enough to poke the doll's head through. Cut two additional strips of black fabric, one long enough to tie around the doll's head and other other for its waist.

    • 6

Poke the doll's head through the circle in the large piece of black fabric. Tie one strip around the doll's head as a headband and another around the waist as a belt.
