How to Hang Drape Rods
Hanging drapes will add beauty and warmth in any dull room. Hanging the rod correctly will result in not having to worry about dogs or children pulling on the drapes, causing them to fall along with the rod. Positioning the brackets in the correct place will prevent accidents. Use a drapery rod when hanging drapes and not a curtain rod. Drapes are heavy and require extra support. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Decide how long you want the drapes to hang. Standard size drape panels are between to 84 to 96 inches. According to The Home and Garden Network, “Draperies should be hung at least four inches above the window frame and should overlap the frame two to four inches on either side of the window.”

2
Check the length of your drape against the wall; start measuring from 4 inches above the window down to the floor to see where your drapes will end. You can also use the actual drape to see how it will fall. Once you know how you want your drapes to fall, you can adjust how many inches above the window you want the drape’s rod to hang.

Mark a dot lightly with a pencil 4 inches above the window frame and 3 inches out from the window frame on both sides of the window.

4
Locate the studs using a stud locator. It is best to mount brackets on the studs for firm support of the heaviness of the drapes and the rod. Adjust penciled dots if necessary. Make sure the marks are in a straight line by using a level.
-
5
Drill a hole into each pencil dot. Mount the outside brackets using the screws that came with the drapery rod kit. Measure the distance between the brackets to determine where the middle is, in order to mount the support bracket in the same way you mounted the outside brackets. This will keep the drapery rod from bowing in the middle.

6
Place the drapes on the drapery rod. Add the finials. Hang the rod and drapes on the mounted brackets.
