Your default email client can be set from the menu of Internet Explorer.

Setting the system default mail application to your primary mail application will save you a lot of time. Any time that you click on a link to send an email, your default mail application will open to compose the mail. By not having your primary mail application set to default, not only do you need to wait for the incorrect program to load so that you may close it, but you also need to wait for the correct mail application to load after it is opened. Additionally, you will need to copy and paste the email address into the correct mail application since it will only be automatically entered into the default application.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you are using Internet Explorer 4.x or earlier then Internet Options will be located under the "View" menu instead of the "Tools" menu.

  • This method will change the global settings of your computer, not just the Internet Explorer settings. For instance, clicking on an email link in FireFox will still open Outlook.
