How to Write a Resume for a Dance Teacher
If you have definitive skill and a passion for the art of dance, then you may be an effective dance teacher. This job affords workers the opportunity be creative and inventive and help others both develop their dance skills and increase their love of this visual art medium. To obtain a job in this competitive field, you will need a résumé that lists your experiences and distinctive qualifications that separate you from other job seekers. By formatting your résumé properly, and including the appropriate information, you can ensure that you stand out from the back and make yourself a shoe, or ballet flat, in for the job.

Select a template. Many word processing programs feature résumé templates, and there are a host of templates available for free download online. Save yourself formatting time, and select a preformatted template to use as the basis of your résumé.

List permanent contact information. Include contact information that will be accurate for at least six months after you apply. If you are planning to move, use your parents' address or the address of a close friend to ensure that the school to which you are applying can get in touch with you well into the future.

Compose an objective. While you don't want your objective to be too specific, you also don't want it to be overly broad. Consider the job for which you are applying when composing your objective, and ensure that you write an objective that would be met were you to obtain the job. When you apply for other positions, modify the objective as necessary, tailoring it to each potential position.

Outline your qualifications. Create a bulleted list of accomplishments within the field of dance that recommends you for the position. Organize the list in reverse chronological order--most recent events highest on the list. Include dates when describing participation in productions or temporary dance company membership.

List your work experience, including dates of employment and specifics regarding types of dance taught. Create a section for each different employer. Include the dates of employment as well as specifics regarding classes you led.

Include academic experience. List any academic experience specifically relevant to your dancing. Include any high school or higher education dance education that you received. List any courses that you have taken that are specifically germane to the job for which you are applying.

List any professional affiliations. If you are a member of a company or dance-related organization, include this information. If you hold a leadership role within the organization, make note of this as well.

List references or make a notation that they are "available upon request." Ask any potential references for permission to include them as a reference. If you elect to send your references with your initial résumé, place them on a separate sheet at the end of the résumé.
