How to Remove Rust Spots From Carpets
Finding stains on your carpet can be annoying and nerve-wracking, especially difficult to remove rust stains. It is not uncommon for metal items to leave rust stains on your carpet. Those rust stains can cause your carpet to look old and dingy. However, there are a few methods to remove the rust stain and restore the look of your carpet. Things You'll Need
- Butter knife
- Lemon juice
- Salt
- Scrub brush
- Cloth
- Water
- Rubbing alcohol
- Spray bottle
- Paper towels
- Commercial rust remover
Instructions

Lemon Juice and Salt

Scrape as much rust off the carpet as you can with the back of a butter knife.

Combine 3 tbsp. lemon juice with 4 tbsp. of salt.

Apply the mixture directly to the rust stain. Allow to sit for a few hours.

Scrub the stain with a scrub brush until the stain disappears. Rinse the area with a damp cloth.
Rubbing Alcohol

Combine 1 part rubbing alcohol with 3 parts water.

Add the solution to a spray bottle.

Saturate the rust stain with the solution.

Blot the rust stain with paper towels. Start at the outer edge of the stain and work inward.

Repeat the process until rust stain is gone.
Commercial Rust Remover

Apply a commercial rust remover to the stained carpet.

Scrub the rust stain with a scrub brush. Allow the carpet to dry for five minutes.

Blot the rust stain with a clean white cloth while applying pressure.

Rinse the area by patting the carpet with a clean, damp cloth.

Tips & Warnings
Test the method on an inconspicuous area of the carpet. If colorfastness or damage occurs, discontinue use and try another rust removal method.
