1
Insulate your attic. Unless you live in a mild climate, you will need to add duct work or insulation so you can spend time there. Insulation will allow you to use the room in summer and winter without being uncomfortable. If you decide not to insulate, consider a ceiling fan and a space heater.

Consider a specific function for your room. A guest bedroom, office, exercise room or craft studio are practical choices as long as you keep your furniture and accessories to a minimum. Trying to use the room for too many activities can result in clutter and make the space unusable.

Get the most out of the space. If you're turning your attic into a guest bedroom or living area, choose small-scale furniture with a low profile to create the illusion of a larger room. Stick to light woods and fabrics to keep the room airy and bright. If your attic is large enough for a full-size bed, place it against the wall to make the space feel larger and more open. Utilize storage drawers and shelving to keep your room neat and tidy.
