How to Convert MPEG to VOB for Free

How to Convert MPEG to VOB for Free thumbnail
VOB remains the standard format for DVD burning.

The MPEG movie container, a creation of the ever-productive Moving Picture Experts Group, is a highly compressed digital video format often used for Web file sharing. MPEGs use the MPEG-1 and MPEG-2 video and audio codecs for compression. If you want to burn an MPEG file onto a DVD, you may be required to convert the MPEG into the DVD Video Object (VOB) container format. Free Internet tools can help you do just that.

Instructions

  1. Media-Convert.com

    • 1

Go to the Media-Convert website. Click "Choose File" and find the MPEG you want to convert. Media-Convert cuts off upload size at 200MB.

    • 2

Choose "MPEG" for your input movie format. Next, choose "VOB" as your output container.

    • 3

Click "OK" to change to the new video format. Once the conversion concludes, click on the download link to receive your VOB.

    MediaConverter.org

    • 4

Go to MediaConverter.org in any browser.

    • 5

Click the "Upload a file" button and find the MPEG. Next, choose "VOB" for your output container. MediaConverter restricts upload size to 100MB for those who are using its free services.

    • 6

Click "Start" to generate the new file. After the conversion winds down, click the download link to snag your VOB.

    Zamzar.com

    • 7

Load Zamzar.com in any Web browser.

    • 8

Click "Choose File" and find the MPEG you wish to convert. Next, select "VOB" for your target container. Free users of Zamzar are limited to uploading files no more than 100MB in size.

    • 9

Type in your email address and click "Convert." You'll soon receive an email containing your VOB in a download link.

Tips & Warnings

  • Should you wish to increase the maximum file size for MediaConverter and Zamzar, you can purchase a monthly or yearly membership with each site. As of April 2010, monthly MediaConverter memberships start at $15, while monthly Zamzar memberships begin at $7.
