How to Hook a Peeler Crab

Peeler crabs are a very popular bait used by fisherman to attract and catch a variety of fish. Their small bodies make them the perfect size for baiting a fishing hook. Peeler crabs, however, must be correctly prepared and strung onto the hook, or they will either fall off or not attract any bites. The process of preparing peeler crabs to be put on a hook is very straightforward, and extremely simple to learn. The process only takes more or less 10 to 15 minutes to complete. Peeler crabs can be purchased from any bait shop.

Instructions

    • 1

Twist off all the legs and claws of the crab so that only the body remains.

    • 2

Position your fingers underneath the back of the top shell of the crab, and pry it off. Turn the crab over, and use the same technique to take the bottom shell off, as well as the tail plate.

    • 3

Thread the hook through the eyes of the crab and back out through the vent near the tail region.

    • 4

Twirl bait elastic once or twice around the crab to anchor it to the hook so that it cannot slip off.
