When you're painting, paint can easily splatter and get on clothes. You may not notice and the paint will dry on your clothes, causing a stain that may seem impossible to get out. Do not throw away clothes with dried paint stains because they may still be salvageable. These stains can come out of clothes with a few attempts and a little bit of time. It will usually cost you less to remove the stains than to replace the clothes. Does this Spark an idea?

Things You'll Need

  • Dishwashing soap
  • Cloth
  • Cotton ball
  • Rubbing alcohol
  • Washing machine

Instructions

  1. Enamel Paint

      Place 4 to 5 drops of dishwashing soap onto a clean cloth.

      Rub the dried paint with the dishwashing soap.

      Leave the dishwashing soap on the dried paint for about five minutes.

      Wash the stained clothing by itself in cold water.

    Latex Paint

      Pour a cap full of rubbing alcohol onto a cotton ball.

      Rub the cotton ball against the paint stain. Keep rubbing until the paint is out.

      Wash the clothing by itself in the washing machine to get rid of any alcohol or paint residue.

Tips & Warnings

  • Before starting, test a small area of fabric with the cleaning ingredients to make sure they don't alter the color of the clothing.

  • You may need more dishwashing soap or rubbing alcohol if there is a lot of dried paint on the clothing.
