1
Research the cell phone market in your area. Determine if there's a need for a new cell phone retailer and if there will be enough sales to support your business. Talk to a representative at your local chamber of commerce to get an opinion on whether there's room for a new retailer.
-
2
Get a state business license, if you don't have one already, by contacting your state government. With a state license, you can collect taxes. You will also need muncipal licenses (to pay municipal taxes) and zoning approval if you are opening your own store. Check your state and local requirements.

3
Create a business plan. In your business plan, include finances, location and a marketing strategy. Be aware that some wireless companies don't allow you to operate a business in your home. Present this business plan to a bank if you need a loan or to secure initial capital.
-
4
Research various wireless companies and ask if they will allow you to become an authorized wireless dealer. You should also ask whether you can operate in the same building by sharing the cost of rent and utilities.
-
5
Become authorized with the wireless company. Some companies will require you to provide a credit check, background check, business plan, signed contracts and compensation agreements. Not all companies will require you to have previous experience in the sales industry, but it helps.
-
6
Hire an attorney or financial adviser. They can help you go over the contracts and compensation agreements. This is extremely helpful if you never looked at a contract before.
-
7
Find out how you can order the wireless company's inventory. You should order more cell phones and accessories in case there is a high demand. Ask questions about the customer activation process, as well.
-
8
Advertise your business. Use business flyers, posters or business cards to promote your business around your neighborhood. Radio and television advertisements are another option for advertising your business.
