How to Repair a Resin Wicker
Resin wicker objects are durable because of the resin's hardened surface, which protects the wicker from water and temperature damage. Resin wicker is most commonly used for outdoor furniture for such reasons and is light-weight and comfortable at the same time. But over time, the resin surface can thin and leave an opening for water to seep in and damage the wicker. Therefore, repair the damaged area quickly to prevent more serious damage and prolong the life of the resin wicker object or furniture. Does this Spark an idea?
Instructions
-
-
1
Lay a drop cloth underneath the resin wicker object to prevent unwanted spills into surrounding areas.
-
2
Choose an epoxy that is light in color if you are planning to paint over the repair area. If the wicker object is made for outdoor uses, pick an epoxy for marine purpose to protect against water damage.
-
-
3
Squeeze out the portion of epoxy needed to repair the damaged area onto a palette. The epoxy is designed to mix out resin and hardener simultaneously upon squeezing. Follow the manufacturer's direction if the epoxy requires further mixing.
-
4
Apply the epoxy to the ends of any loose strands of wicker. Interweave the strands into the surrounding area following the adjoining patterns, if any. Let the epoxy dry.
-
5
Dab small amounts of epoxy with a pointed tool on the damaged sections, whether its a crack or a broken strand. Using a pointed tool will allow the resin to match the texture of the wicker object, which is usually uneven. Let the epoxy dry for 24 hours.
