There are two types of personal bankruptcy under the United States Bankruptcy Code, Chapter 7 and Chapter 13. A Chapter 7 bankruptcy is essentially an estate liquidation where an appointed Trustee sells off assets of the estate in order to pay creditors. A Chapter 7 bankruptcy usually ends within four months. A Chapter 13 bankruptcy is a long-term repayment plan that lasts from three to five years depending on your income. If a debtor makes plan payments regularly for the assigned time period, that debtor's debt will be discharged once the payments have been completed. It is important during a Chapter 13 bankruptcy to keep track of your bankruptcy balance to make sure your plan payments are up to date and that you are completing your bankruptcy in a timely manner.

Instructions

    • 1

Find your bankruptcy case number. All bankruptcy cases are assigned bankruptcy case numbers once a bankruptcy petition has been filed with the court. This number is usually located at the top right hand corner of any legal documents you may receive.

    • 2

Determine which Chapter 13 Trustee has been appointed to act as your bankruptcy Trustee. This is also determined at the time you file your bankruptcy petition with the bankruptcy court, and can be found on most legal documents you receive.

    • 3

Go to www.13network.com on the Internet. This is a universal website that gives updated information on Chapter 13 cases throughout the country. It will have updated information through the last 24 hours.

    • 4

Select your state, then your Trustee's name from the menu. This will take you to a log-in page where you'll need to type in your case number and your password. Your password is usually your Social Security number without any dashes, but the password can be changed once you've logged in.

Look at the first page after you've logged in. Your current bankruptcy balance will show at the top right hand corner of the page. If you select one of the options listed on the menus at the top of the log-in page, you can also view any payments your Trustee has made to your creditors and the number of payments you've made into your bankruptcy plan.
