How to Fold a Floor Plan

How to Fold a Floor Plan thumbnail
Learn how to store your floor plans.

A floor plan is a detailed architectural drawing fit to scale that represents the layout of a structure. The viewpoint of the structure is always oriented looking down onto the floor of the structure, hence the name "floor plan." To prevent creases and eventual tears to these heavily used plans, architects will roll the plan and secure it with a rubber band. Learn how to properly store floor plans and ensure their longevity.

Instructions

    • 1

Lay the floor plan out on a clear, flat surface and orient it vertically.

    • 2

Grab the edge of the plan closest to you and curl it over so that it begins to form a circular roll.

    • 3

Hold the curled edge of the plan with your fingers and curl your wrists forward so that you begin to roll up the plan. Alternate curling your wrists until the remainder of the plan is tightly rolled into a tube.

    • 4

Hold the rolled-up plan firmly in one hand and roll a rubber band over the length of the tube until it rests somewhere in the middle. The plan is now secured and ready for storage.
