How to Replace a Nintendo DS Lite External Extension Connector

How to Replace a Nintendo DS Lite External Extension Connector thumbnail
Not just any power plug will work with your Nintendo DS.

The Nintendo DS Lite portable video gaming system contains a rechargeable internal Li-ion battery, meaning the machine never has to be opened up to switch out expired AAs like Game Boy players had to do. However, the machine is beholden to a specific brand of power adapter used to recharge the battery: the external extension connector, also known as an AC Adapter. Changing this connector isn't hard, but you have to get the right model.

Instructions

    • 1

Remove your broken or non-working external extension connector from the power port of your Nintendo DS Lite. Discard the broken connector.

    • 2

Visit a video game store such as Gamestop or EB Games and purchase a new external extension connector for Nintendo DS Lite (The connector from the original Nintendo DS will not work). The part may also be referred to as an AC Adapter or Power Adapter. Alternatively, these can be purchased from Nintendo's online store (see Resources).

    • 3

Connect your replacement external extension connector to the power slot of your DS Lite.

    • 4

Plug the connector into a power outlet and wait until the orange charge light on the upper right corner of the DS Lite turns off.
