How to Open Downloaded Fonts

How to Open Downloaded Fonts thumbnail
You can download and open new fonts on your computer.

While there are dozens of fonts that come standard with a program such as Microsoft Office, those who use Office programs such as Word, Publisher, Excel and PowerPoint can download more fonts to these programs. While you can download fonts from a number of websites, there are sometimes problems associated with opening the fonts you have downloaded. Understanding how to open the fonts will allow the fonts to appear in the font window of your programs. You then may select the fonts from these windows to use in your documents.

Instructions

    • 1

Click the "Start" menu and select "Control Panel" if using Windows XP or an earlier version of Windows.

    • 2

Double click "Fonts" in the "Control Panel." A "Fonts" window will open.

    • 3

Right-click on the page. A menu will open. Choose "Install New Font" from the list.

    • 4

Navigate to the location where you saved the fonts you downloaded. Click on the folder that contains the fonts. Select "Install."

    • 5

Click "OK." You now have downloaded the fonts and can use them the next time you open your fonts list.

Tips & Warnings

  • If using Windows Vista or a later version, type "Fonts" into the search box at the bottom of the "Start" menu and select the "Fonts" icon then skip to step 3.
