How to Clean Reef Sandals

How to Clean Reef Sandals thumbnail
Daily wear can create a need to clean you Reef sandals.

Warm summer weather brings out new fashion trends in many areas, and footwear certainly changes as the temperature increases. More people decide to ditch the closed-toe look and wear open-air sandals and flip flops. The Reef company began selling such footwear fashions in the early 1980s. These designer footwear products can be comfortable, but wear will produce a buildup of dirt and grime. Proper cleaning can help to make your Reef sandals looking good as new.

Instructions

    • 1

Wipe the Reef sandals with a plain, clean cloth to remove surface dirt, dust and other contaminants. If you find a buildup of sand, dirt or mud, gently file the area with a nail file until the buildup is gone. Stop before the file hits the actual shoe.

    • 2

Dampen a soft cloth in warm water. Wring the cloth well, so that the material is damp but not soaked.

    • 3

Wipe your Reef sandals with the dampened cloth to remove dirt, sand, dust and other surface contaminants.

    • 4

Rewet the cloth, adding one or two drops of mild dish soap. Repeat wiping down the sandals; the soap will help to remove stains or stubborn dirt.

    • 5

Place nonleather sandals in a sunny spot to dry. The sun and natural breeze can help to remove residual dirt. For leather shoes, place them out of direct sunlight and away from heat sources to dry; sunlight can fade leather.

    • 6

Fill two socks with baking soda; leave enough room so that you can tie the socks closed with rubber bands. Store the sandals overnight with the baking soda socks inside them; the baking soda will absorb excess moisture, helping to prevent odor.
