Homemade Non Toxic Cleaners
Many common kitchen items have antibacterial and abrasive properties that can be used for cleaning and disinfecting. Homemade nontoxic cleaning supplies can be made in your kitchen for a fraction of the cost of commercial cleaners. Essential oils can be added to the homemade cleaners to add a pleasant fragrance. Always read the instructions on any essential oils you would like to add to the cleaners as some essential oils are toxic. Does this Spark an idea?
Things You'll Need
- 2 cups olive oil
- 1 cup lemon juice
- Plastic spray bottle
- Soft towel
- 4 tablespoons baking soda
- Bucket
- 1 quart warm water
- Wooden spoon
- Essential oil
- Sponge
- Baking soda
- Clean grated-cheese shaker
- Essential oil for fragrance
- Vacuum
Instructions

Furniture Polish

Pour two cups of olive oil into an open plastic spray bottle.

Add one cup of lemon juice to the oil.

Place the spray nozzle on the bottle and shake well.

Spray the mixture on your wood furniture. Use a soft cloth to polish the wood with the oil and lemon mixture.
All Purpose Cleaner

Put 4 tablespoons of baking soda in a bucket.

Add 1 quart of warm water to the baking soda.

Mix the baking soda and water together with a wooden spoon.

Pour in a few drops of your favorite essential oil, if you want to scent the cleaner. Lavender is a excellent choice for a nontoxic essential oil.

Dip the sponge in the homemade cleaner and wipe on kitchen and bathroom surfaces.
Carpet Deodorizer

Pour baking soda into a clean shaker that is typically used for grated cheese.

Add a couple drops of essential oils, if you want the deodorizer scented.

Shake the grated cheese container to mix the oil with the baking soda.

Sprinkle the baking soda over your carpeting in a light layer. Allow it to sit undisturbed for an hour.

Vacuum the carpet to remove the baking soda.
