Sync an iPod without erasing the files currently on it.

When you try to sync multiple iPods with one computer, files you have uploaded to those players may automatically be erased from them. But this frustration can easily be avoided, by changing how your iPods sync with the iTunes software. Changing settings will give you the ability to successfully sync two iPods without erasing the content saved on either.

Instructions

    • 1

Connect the iPod you'll be syncing with iTunes to your computer, using the iPod's USB cord.

Open iTunes. A dialog window will appear.

    • 3

Click "Cancel" to close the dialog window.

    • 4

Click on the iPod title in the "Devices" list. A variety of different tabs will become visible at the top of the middle iTunes window.

    • 5

      Click the "Summary" tab.

    • 6

Click "Manually manage music and videos," located at the bottom of the middle iTunes window.

    • 7

Click the "Apply" tab at the bottom of iTunes. The iPod will be synced without data being deleted from it.

Repeat this process with your other iPod. You will then be able to sync both without files being automatically erased from either device.
