Determine your budget based upon the number of windows you will be covering. Measure the windows you will be covering; the width and the height, add length to the height if you would like the coverings to extend to the floor. Likewise add width for extended coverage on either side of the window. These are preliminary measurements only. More extensive, precise measurements can be taken later to determine an exact cost.

Choose the color palette you would like for the window coverings. Match wall paint color if desired, or choose a contrasting or complementary color. Choose neutral colors to suit your decor and palette. Match fabric color on sofas, chairs and wall art to window coverings. Think about if you would like a monochromatic effect or a multi-colored effect. Look at layering different colors and textures within one window treatment.
