How to Reset a CD Player for a 2006 Chevy Cobalt

The CD player in your 2006 Chevy Cobalt should give you years of trouble-free performance. However, when the CD player fails, you'll need to replace it. Replacement factory original CD players are available from a General Motors dealership. Replacement aftermarket CD players are available from many car and truck audio shops. However, if your player is merely malfunctioning, you can try to reset it to get it working again.

Instructions

    • 1

Open the fuse panel under the steering column by pulling down on the fuse panel cover with your fingers.

    • 2

Locate the fuse for the radio on the fuse diagram on the underside of the fuse cover.

    • 3

Pull the fuse for the radio and turn the ignition on, but don't start the engine.

    • 4

Wait 15 minutes and then reinsert the fuse.

    • 5

Press the power button on the radio.

    • 6

When the display on the radio and CD panel flashes "CODE," enter your vehicle's CD/radio code to unlock the CD player. Enter this number on the CD player's number pad on the CD/radio interface, an integrated unit in the center console of the dashboard. The CD player will be reset after you enter the code.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you don't have the CD unlock code, then you will need the dealership to unlock the CD for you.
