Crowded Ethernet Hub

An Ethernet is the speed at which a network runs between devices. Ethernet is sometimes implied to have an Internet connection, but a connection is not necessary to create an Ethernet network. A hub allows you to connect several network devices together. You may need different equipment, depending on whether the Ethernet is connected to the Internet or not because Ethernet networks with an Internet connection require a router.

Instructions

  1. Ethernet With No Internet

    • 1

Connect an Ethernet cable between all the devices you want to connect to the Ethernet network and the open ports on the hub. Leave one empty port.

    • 2

Connect the crossover cable from the empty port of the Ethernet network you just connected and an empty port on the second hub. The crossover cable allows data communication between the two hubs.

    • 3

      Turn on both hubs.

    Ethernet With an Internet Connection

    • 4

Connect a Ethernet cable from one of the LAN ports on the router to the hub. The router should already be receiving an Internet signal from an Internet modem such as a DSL or cable modem.

    • 5

Connect a Ethernet cable from the hub to any network device you want to connect to the Ethernet network.

    • 6

      Turn the hub on.
