How to Clean a Flowtron Bug Zapper

Since 1974, Armatron International, Inc. has manufactured a wide variety of residential and commercial electric insect-killing devices such as bug zappers sold under the Flowtron Outdoor Products Division brand name. As with other bug zapper brands, Flowtron bug zappers attract bugs to an electrified killing grid enclosure with a light bulb. Although some models feature a bug collection tray for disposal, bug parts can cling to the grid. Without regular cleaning to remove dead bugs from on or around the grid, your Flowtron bug zapper may not only work less efficiently but also pose a fire or disease hazard. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Set up a cleaning area somewhere outside and prep your cleaning supplies. Line a large garbage can with a bag and plug in your vacuum.

    • 2

Put on a mask and gloves.

    • 3

Unplug your Flowtron bug zapper. Take down the device from where it hangs and carry it to your cleaning area.

    • 4

Clean the collection tray if applicable to your model. Remove it from the device, dump it in the garbage can, then set it aside. If you find bug parts clinging to it, brush the tray gently with a toothbrush.

    • 5

Remove any parts or carcasses from the bottom of the device and grid. Hold your Flowtron bug zapper over the garbage can and vacuum it to remove loose debris. Dislodge any debris stuck to surfaces with a toothbrush, a hair dryer or canned air.

    • 6

Return the collection tray to the device, if applicable.

    • 7

Re-hang your Flowtron bug zapper and plug it back in when finished.

Tips & Warnings

  • Always wear a mask and gloves and clean your Flowtron bug zapper outside and over a lined garbage can to protect against the spread of bug-borne diseases.

  • Never use water or cleaners to clean your zapper as doing so can damage to the device.
