Troubleshooting Audio No Visual in a Microsoft Xbox 360
A gaming machine with rich colors and sounds, the Microsoft Xbox 360 lets you play your favorite games on a variety of television screens, including LCD displays. The gaming machine interfaces with your television using a composite cable that transmits audio and video through two separate channels, but the transmission is not without its problems. One problem you may experience is having audio but no video. Troubleshoot and repair the problem so you can get back to your gaming experience.

Checking AV Connections
-
1
Turn on your television if it is off. Turn the television around so the composite (RCA) jacks are facing you if the jacks are on the back of the television.
-
2
Push the Xbox 360's AV cable firmly into the jack on the back of the Xbox unit.
-
-
3
Check that you have connected the Xbox 360's audio cables into the "Audio" jacks and the video cable is plugged into the "Video" jack on the back or front of your television. Push the composite cables firmly into the jacks.
-
4
Use your television's remote control to select "Menu" or press the "Menu" button on the front of your television to enter your television's setup control. Check that you have selected the "Video" or "Line" input so the composite jacks on the back or front of your television are active.
If you still don't have both audio and video, proceed to the "AV Cable/Xbox Power On" section.

5
Check that you are using an AV cable that is compatible with your Xbox 360. The cable's packaging include the following wording "Microsoft-licensed" or "Microsoft-compatible cable." The cable should have one yellow composite video as well as four audio composite cables.
If the cable doesn't contain a yellow composite video cable, you have the wrong cable.
-
6
Check that your Xbox 360 is powered on and the green "Ring of Light" on the front of the unit is illuminated. If the Ring of Light is blinking red in all four quadrants, your AV cable may be faulty or one that is not licensed to use with your Xbox 360.
-
7
Check that your VCR is turned on if your Xbox 360 is connected through your VCR. The AV cable's yellow video cable should be plugged into the "Video In" jack on the back of your VCR. Your VCR should be set to the "Video" or "Line" input and not to channel "3" or "4."
If you still don't have both audio and video, proceed to the "Connecting Xbox 360 to another television" section.

Disconnect your Xbox 360's AV cable from the back or front of your television.

-
10
Push the AV composite cables firmly into the jacks on the back or front of the television.
-
11
Turn on both the Xbox 360 and the television. Set the television's video input to "Video" or "Line." You should see video and hear audio emitting from your television's speakers. If you are still experiencing problems, test the gaming machine with another disc.
If you are still having problems with no video, replace your Xbox 360's AV cable.
