How to Put on Winn Golf Grips thumbnail
New Winn golf club grips can be installed in just a few steps.

Golf club grips get worn with age, and a slick or cracked grip can cause you to sacrifice valuable strokes on the course. Good grips can help give you proper hand movement and stability when swinging the club. Here is how to install Winn golf grips.

Things You'll Need

  • Vice grip
  • Golf club
  • Golf club grip
  • Utility knife
  • Mineral spirit
  • Towel

Instructions

    • 1

Remove the old grip. Using a utility knife with a sharp blade, cut through the entire length of the grip while trying not to damage the shaft, especially if the shaft is graphite. Peel off the old grip and the tape that was used to install it. A vice grip, preferably one attached to a table or post, could be used to secure the club as you work.

    • 2

Clean the shaft. Spray adhesive remover on the shaft and use a towel to wipe away any tape or debris. If you have trouble removing the old tape, try scraping the residue with a butter knife, but be careful not to damage the shaft.

    • 3

Measure how long the Winn grip is. You don't need a ruler for this. Just unroll the double-sided tape the length of the grip, stopping a few centimeters shy of the entire length of the grip, and tear the tape. You don't want any tape to be exposed once you attach the grip.

    • 4

Secure the double-sided tape. Carefully place the tape on the shaft where it fits flush, with little to no wrinkling, and wrap the tape around the shaft.

    • 5

Spray the tape with mineral spirits. Be generous, as you want to create a well-lubricated surface for the grip to slide over.

    • 6

Spray the inside of the Winn golf grip with mineral spirits while plugging the grip's tip hole with your thumb. Swish the solvent inside the golf club, making sure that the inside of the grip is lubricated. Remove your thumb and dump the excess solvent on the tape.

    • 7

Secure the grip. Quickly slide the grip into place on top of the double-sided tape to where it is flush against the end of the shaft.

    • 8

Align the grip. Remove the club from the vice and hold it as if you were about to strike a golf ball. Make sure the "WG" (Winn Golf) or other Winn identifier is in the middle of the club. This logo will be toward the tip of the grip.

    • 9

Seat the adhesive. This is usually taken care of by the previous step; however, pressing your hands firmly against the Winn grip should secure the tape and the grip.

    • 10

Clean and allow to dry, wiping away any excess solvent. Sit the club upright. Wait at least 30 minutes to use the club, though it t is ideal to allow the grip to dry overnight.

Tips & Warnings

  • Use odorless Mineral spirit solvent.

  • Use a properly ventilated area.

  • Use a utility knife with a hooked blade.
