How to Sell Bundled Firewood
In an August 2009 article, Consumer Reports indicated that there was an increase in the use of wood-burning furnaces in the United States due to rising energy costs, a situation that has continued into 2010. In these circumstances, bundled firewood can prove to be a profitable business. Useful for fireplaces, furnaces and camp fires, bundled wood can be marketed and sold to a variety of establishments and individuals. Once firewood is seasoned and bundled, selling it requires targeted marketing and advertisement. Proper research, a little physical effort and planning can turn that pile of wood into a profitable business enterprise.

1
Set a price. Evaluate your competitors, including nearby grocery stores and garden stores that sell wood. Take note of their pricing and price your bundles accordingly. Pricing too far below market price may cut into potential profit, while pricing above the market rate will send customers running to your competitors.

2
Decide on a location for sales. Several options exist for bundled firewood sales. If your house is located along a busy road, your driveway may be perfect. Another option is to contact garden centers, local campgrounds and RV parks and determine if you can sell direct to them or set up a stand during operating hours.

Advertise your business. Take out an ad in your local newspaper. Provide detailed contact information so buyers can reach you, especially if you are selling from your property and won't be operating a staffed location. Use signs to direct people to your place of business and pass out fliers to local outfitter and sports stores to help get the word out.

4
Differentiate your business. Offer services such as free delivery and free unloading. Consider including promotional items, such as matches and lighters with your name and phone number on them. They provide an added benefit to the consumer and also serve as a way to market your business.
