Instructions

    • 1

Make sure that your DSL Internet connection is functioning properly by turning on the computer and accessing the Internet.

    • 2

Turn off the computer and disconnect the DSL modem.

    • 3

Connect the DSL modem to the Internet port on the Linksys router with an ethernet cable, using the router's user guide to identify the appropriate port.

    • 4

Connect the computer to one of the ethernet ports of the router using another cable, again using the user guide to identify this port.

    • 5

Check to see that the LEDs on the front panel of the router are on, as they should be if all components are connected and plugged in correctly.

    • 6

Turn on the computer and open your web browser. Consult the router's user guide to get the address of its setup page and enter this address into your browser's address bar.

    • 7

Enter the router's default user name and password (typically the word "admin" without the quotes) in the new window that pops up.

    • 8

Find the field for Local IP address in the setup page, and enter the IP address provided in your user's guide.

    • 9

Click the status tab on your setup page and then look for the IP address field on the status page. If you see the IP address you just entered, then your wireless connection is ready. On the other hand, if you see zeros, you will need to click on the "DHCP release" button, followed by the "DHCP renew" button on the same page, which should activate the IP address. You are now ready to connect to your DSL Internet service through your wireless router.
