How to Send a Letter to a Principal for Future Jobs
The principal of a school is responsible for hiring school staff, including teachers, administrative workers and custodial workers. If you'd like to apply for a job at the school, the best person to send your cover letter and resume to is the principal. You can also send a letter that states your interest in any future jobs that may be available at the school. That way, the principal will have your information and may think of you if a position opens up.

1
Find out the principal's name. Verify the correct spelling. You can find this information on the school's website or by calling the school directly.
-
2
Type your name and contact information, including your physical address, phone number and email address at the top of the cover letter. You want to make it easy for the principal to get back in touch with you.
-
-
3
Type the principal's name one space below your contact information. Also include her title, the name of the school and the address of the school.
-
4
Skip one space, and start your letter with a professional greeting, such as "Dear Principal Jones."
-
5
State what job you're applying for in the first paragraph of the cover letter. Also, include information about why you're interested in working for the school along with your most impressive or relevant qualifications in the first paragraph.
-
6
Explain your qualifications in more detail, as well as any prior experience working with children, even if it's not directly related to the job you're applying for, in the body of the cover letter. The body of the cover letter should be one to two paragraphs long. The principal will appreciate that you have had experience working with children, and it will make her more confident that you can handle working in a school environment. Be sure to include plenty of detail about your relevant experience in the body of the cover letter. The purpose of the cover letter is to convince the principal that you're the best candidate for that future job. Be detailed, but be sure to keep your cover letter to no more than one page.
-
7
Request an interview to discuss your qualifications in the last paragraph of the cover letter. Make sure to thank the principal for her consideration and for reviewing your resume.
-
8
Skip one line below the last paragraph, and include a closing, such as "Sincerely" or "Best Regards." Skip a few spaces, and type your name. This space is where you'll sign your name once the letter is printed out. Skip one line below your typed name, and include "Encl. (1)." This tells the principal that you've enclosed one other document with your cover letter. This document is your resume. Your cover letter is now ready to send.
