How to Change an Orkut Home Page

Orkut is an online community developed by Google. Orkut users can create an online profile page similar to pages developed by members of other popular social networking sites. From their profile page, users can communicate with other Orkut members, display information about themselves, and customize their home pages to reflect their interest and tastes.

Instructions

Browse the Theme Gallery

1. Log in to your Orkut account.

2. Select "change theme," and then select "gallery" at the top of your Orkut Profile page.

3. Browse the theme gallery. When you find a theme you like, you can select it and then click "yes" under "Save theme?" to change your Orkut home page.

4. Browse fellow Orkut members' profile pages to grab their themes. Click on "get this theme" at the top of a fellow Orkut members' profile to incorporate, or copy, their theme into your page.

Add Images and Photos

1. Add your profile picture. Scroll over your profile picture and select the "change my photo" link that appears. In the "Chose File to Upload" window select an image from your computer. Then click "Open" to upload that picture. You will be redirected to a Crop window where you can cut parts of your image out by dragging the corners of the crop box to make it smaller or larger. Then click the "save" button, or select "cancel" to not crop your image.

2. Add a photo album. Select "photos" underneath your profile picture. Select "create album" and enter in a name and description for your new album. Then click "add photos" to browse your computer and insert photos into your photo album.

3. Show your favorite videos from YouTube. Click on the "videos" button underneath your profile picture. In the "Enter your YouTube favorite video URL" field, paste the direct link to your favorite YouTube video. Then hit "post."

Edit Profile

1. Add information to your page by selecting "edit profile" underneath your profile picture.

2. Select the tab that you want to add information to. You can select the "general," "social," "contact," "professional, and "personal" tabs. The general tab includes information about your age, your educational background, your birth date, your sex, etc. The social tab requires input about your political views, ethnicity, religion, and so on. The contact tab will include information about how to contact you--email, address, and IM. The professional tab will ask you information about your employment background. And the personal tab asks questions concerning specific interest and taste such as "My idea of a perfect first date is..." All of these tabs and questions are optional.

3. Select the "update" button on the bottom of each tab to save your changes.

Promote & Add Applications

1. Select the "more" option under your profile picture and select promotion-related applications to add to your home page. You can select "testimonials," "promote," or "events." These sections allow you to promote activities or interest you have.

2. Add applications to your home page. Select "add apps" under "more." Then browse the tons of available applications that can be added to your page. For example, MindJolt Games which offers users the opportunities to participate in tons of online gaming activities from their home page. You could also add chat room applications which creates a chat room on your page. You can also change the font and color on your home page by adding the application "Orkut Stylish Font."

3. Hit the "Add Application" button to add the app to your Orkut home page.
