How to Make Fragrance Tarts

Fragrance tarts take their name from their resemblance to pastry tarts. These scented wax tarts fill the room with fragrance when used in a tart burner. The wax tarts themselves don't burn. Instead, a small tea light or electric warmer melts the wax, which releases its scent and eventually evaporates. You can buy fragrance tarts in many scents, but they're easy to make at home.

Things You'll Need

• Wax
• Double boiler
• Essential oil
• Ladle
• Muffin tin

Instructions

1. Melt the wax in a double boiler over medium heat. As soon as all the wax is melted, remove the pan from heat.

2. Stir in two or three drops of essential oil. You can also add coloring if you like.

3. Fill muffin cups no more than half full with the melted wax. Use a ladle to fill the muffin tin.

4. Set aside the muffin tin and allow the wax to harden until completely cool.

5. Place the muffin tin in the freezer for 10 minutes. This will shrink the wax enough so that the wax tarts will pop out easily.

6. Store the wax tarts in a box or plastic container with wax paper between layers.

Tips & Warnings

• Melt old candle ends to make tarts.

• Use broken crayons to color your wax tarts.

• Remove wax from heat as soon as it is completely melted. Keep the wax away from direct heat.

• If you spill any essential oil on your skin, wash with soap and water right away to prevent skin irritation.
